About CUET

The Clemson Equestrian Team is a Club Sports organization administered under the Club Sports Office of Student Affairs at Clemson University. As such, any member of the University community is welcome as a member of the club. Club dues are $35 per semester. The primary function of the club is to field Clemson's Intercollegiate Equestrian Team. We compete in Zone 5 Region 2 of the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) . By IHSA rules, to compete in IHSA shows, an individual must be a full-time undergraduate student at an IHSA member institution. IHSA considers a student to be full-time if he or she is either carrying at least 12 credit hours during the semester or is an official Co-Op student.

IHSA also includes competition for Alumni riders. Any individual who competed in IHSA competitions as an undergraduate is eligible to join the IHSA Alumni Association and compete in IHSA shows in the Alumni Division. Alumni riders compete in their current region but ride for the school where they did their undergraduate competition. CUET welcomes as club members any IHSA Alumni from other schools who are living and working or attending school at Clemson.

The Clemson Equestrian Team currently fields only a Hunt Seat Equitation team. The IHSA has something for everyonefrom riders who are just learning to ride to those who have competed in the Medal Finals, done the Jumpers, or gone to the Quarter Horse World. At the beginning of a Team member's first semester he or she fills out a form that asks lots of questions about riding, lesson, and competitive history and from the answers is placed in one of the IHSA divisions. As riders win ribbons and points during their IHSA career, they move up through the divisions.

In an IHSA Competition, the host school supplies the horses and the tack, so CUET riders need only bring themselves and their show clothes to the shows. The Team supplies transportation and hotel. The riders are responsible for their own entry fees (at $16 per class with each rider competing in a maximum of 2 classes per show) and for feeding themselves during the trip. The shows in our Region are all held on weekends. We leave following class on Friday and return Saturday or Sunday night depending on the number and duration of the show(s) that weekend. Riders must travel and stay with the team. Friends and Family who would like to come and cheer us on are welcome but must travel on their own.

NOTE:
IHSA dues are in addition to Club dues, are $30 for one disipline and these dues are paid once a year.
