Hapkido is a Korean martial art that combines joints locks, throws, punches, kicks, pressure point attacks, and various other controlling techniques into a truly comprehensive self-defense system. Anybody can practice Hapkido; strength and stature do not matter. No prior experience in martial arts is necessary to join. Due to the cardiovascular nature of our practices, Hapkido is also a good workout. By practicing Hapkido, you not only learn self-defense, but there are many other benefits you can expect to see, including greater flexibility, better balance and coordination, more confidence and self-esteem, and a healthier mind.
Hapkido emphasizes the building of 'Ki' through the coordination of mind and body. 'Ki' is the infinite energy and potential that exists within each of us, which can be developed through relaxation and simple breathing techniques. These meditation techniques help your mind and body relax, and focus on the task at hand, whether it be at practice, or your every-day life.
